Military church of St. John of Nepomuk
Základní kámen kostela při klášteře voršilek byl položen roku 1720. Stavitelem byl Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer a fresková výzdoba je dílem Václava Vavřince Reinera. Po vysvěcení 21. srpna 1729 se stal prvním kostelem v Praze zasvěceným sv. Janu Nepomuckému.
V roce 1784 byl klášter zrušen, začal sloužit jako kasárna a kostel jako skladiště. Sakrální funkce vyla obnovena roku 1861. Nejprve sloužil pražské vojenské posádce jako evangelický kostel a od roku 1902 byl katolickým kostelem kadetní školy. Vojenská duchovní služba byla po roce 1948 zrušena a kostel uzavřen. Jako nepotřebný byl předán pražskému arcibiskupství. V roce 1998 došlo k obnovení služby vojenských kaplanů a Duchovní služba Armády České republiky od roku 2001 kostel využívá ve prospěch vojáků. Stal se místem modliteb za mír, padlé a zemřelé.
The church was built in a part of the Ursulines’ convent. the construction of the church started in 1720, all works were conducted by a leading baroque architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The author of the frescoes was Wenzel Lorent Reiner. the church was the first in Prague to be consecrated to st. John of Nepomuk.
In 1784, the convent was abolished and its buildings began to be used as a military barracks while the church became a warehouse. in 1861, spiritual service returned to the church. it served as a church for the protestants in the military and from 1902 for the catholic cadets. Czech military chaplaincy was closed down after the communist coup in 1948, and the church was returned to the Prague´s archbishopric. In 1998, the Czech military chaplaincy was restored and the Army has been using the church since then. St. John’s Church has become the place of prayer for peace, as well as for the fallen and dead.
